<p>And I&#8217;ll include a recipe for<a href="https://thewindmill-bakery.com/oliebollen/"> Oliebollen</a>, which Washington Irving referred to. I can certainly see them as an expression of hospitality in the Dutch community.  The recipe I linked to is for plain oliebollen, but there is also one on the same site for another common version that includes apples and raisins.</p>
